The volume brings together a selection of fundamental texts that aim to answer two questions that inevitably arise with the so-called cultural turn: What is culture? And: What is cultural studies? In addition to texts by prominent representatives of the so-called first cultural studies and programmatic texts from the intensely debated cultural turn, the volume also includes texts from structuralism and post-structuralism, the history of science, and media theory that are of central importance to contemporary cultural studies. Its goal is to explore the premises for a critical assessment of the boundaries of a complex research field while also engaging in the discussion of the various approaches within cultural studies, in order to develop a logic of cultural studies.
