Only a few years ago, Josef Winkler learned that his fellow Carinthian Odilo Globocnik, who boasted about the mass murder of Jews as the head of "Operation Reinhardt" with the words "We’ve taken care of two million," was buried in May 1945 in a communal grave in Winkler's hometown of Kamering after his suicide by cyanide. This grave is located in the "Sautratten" - the very place where Winkler's father and grandfather grew and harvested their grain. In a fierce marathon of words, the author exhumes the skeleton of the SS mass murderer - and with it, the history of Kamering after the war. The excavation and the renewed visitation of perhaps the most described village in contemporary German-language literature reveal: the ground on which Kamering stands is poisoned. "Lass dich heimgeigen" places its finger on the wound of decades of collective silence.
