The second part of the "Passionate Guide" was discovered after E. M. Cioran's death in 1995. This late, perhaps final Romanian book—the author wrote in his mother tongue until 1949—serves as a transition to his French works. It complements both his early Romanian writings and his mature French ones. Cioran's thinking possesses an almost suicidally honest quality; it is a thought process that never loses sight of its creator and never gets lost in empty, lifeless abstractions. "Passionate Guide II" contains pages of poignant intimacy and fearless self-revelation. On the other hand, the book revolves around fundamental and key concepts of Cioran's thought: "fate" and "love," and again and again, "music" and "death."
