The concept of vibrant rationality – as the rationality of human persons with significant involvement of their sensing and bodily life – becomes temporarily visible in its scope when we recall some well-known questions. These are related to the fact that typical rationality (as a method for finding optimal solutions in human cognition and action) always depends on prior statements from the individuals who employ it. A few of these questions are: Where do we derive the ultimate and central goals of our efforts in cognition and action? What is the relationship between these goals? Do we have a clear, well-articulated understanding of them supported by a core aspect of our own person? Or are we merely pursuing them in a haphazard manner, struggling through unrecognized tensions and contradictions?.
