The self-posed question of how to characterize his work most succinctly was answered by Peter Sloterdijk with the remark that he is a "philosophizing writer." This explains the success of his books. His thoughts, reflections, and analyses are infused with a unique style: they gain credibility through polished form, careful phrasing, apt metaphors, and ironic exaggeration. This way of philosophizing has its origins in France. Therefore, it is not surprising that the chapters of his work, in which he engages with France, its land, and its thinkers, are particularly striking. The present volume brings together Peter Sloterdijk's reflections on French history and philosophy from the 18th century to the present, from Voltaire to Derrida, from the French Revolution to Sarkozy.
