Menschenwürde
German, 2017Product details
Human dignity is often referred to as an "absolute value," as "inviolable" or "non-negotiable." While some consider it a central idea of morality, others reject it: since nothing is "absolute" and "non-negotiable," there can be no human dignity. This volume discusses a third position in detail for the first time, alongside these perspectives. According to this view, human dignity is at least partially contingent regarding its origin and validity, which, however, does not necessitate its rejection. Rather, an interpretation seems necessary that takes into account the dimensions of this contingency. Contributions from Rüdiger Bittner, Christian Neuhäuser, Peter Schaber, and Ralf Stoecker, among others.
