In recent years, a specific variant of phenomenology with very distinctive themes has emerged in France, which is yet to be discovered in this country. Its main representatives are Michel Henry with his radical life phenomenology, Jean-Luc Marion, who has developed a comprehensive phenomenology of the gift, and Marc Richir, who has outlined the phenomenological conditions for spontaneous meaning formation in experience. The volume presents the key works of these authors in detailed historical-systematic interpretations. Along with seven shorter portraits of other important figures and individual studies on Ricoeur and Derrida as influential outsiders, it provides an excellent overview of the New Phenomenology in France.
