Product details

If there was something like the "poor relative" among philosophical topics in the first half of the 20th century, it was feelings. Although classics like Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Descartes, and Hume dealt with them extensively, since Kant dismissed them as "opponents of reason," feelings received little attention in philosophy. It was not until the 1960s that they returned to the focus of interest, due to the insight that feelings are cognitive mental states that can serve to rationalize other states and actions. However, there is still debate about the nature of emotional cognitions. This volume brings together the most important positions in the philosophy of feelings through historically systematic individual studies and serves as both a comprehensive introduction to the topic and as a semi.
