On April 1, 1959, Siegfried Unseld took over the management of Suhrkamp Verlag. Ten days later, he traveled to East Berlin and visited Brecht's widow, Helene Weigel. Upon his return, he dictated a travel report, which he himself referred to as such, documenting the important results of his conversations for himself and his staff. Until his death in 2002, Siegfried Unseld wrote nearly 1,000 travel reports. The selected reports published here for the first time offer a unique opportunity to follow the development of Suhrkamp Verlag from the publisher's perspective. They document encounters between the publisher and significant German and international authors of the second half of the 20th century, sometimes dramatic, sometimes relaxed on vacation, sometimes combative, with Samuel Beckett in Paris, with Peter Handke in New York, with Thomas Bernhard in Cairo. They allow the reader a glimpse.
