The social engagement with art and literature as a hallmark of "refined distinctions" has occupied Pierre Bourdieu since the beginning of his research. Parallel to these studies on cultural consumption, a series of works and lectures on the logic of cultural production has emerged, which this volume gathers. From elements of a theory of art perception to sketches of the structure of the artistic field, and extending to the historical dimensions of the emergence of a pure aesthetics, Bourdieu demonstrates the mechanisms of cultural production as a socially conditioned work on its own presuppositionlessness.
