In "Heimaten," Seiler recounts his origins from a village in East Thuringia and their emergence in poetry: a narrative of origin as poetics (and vice versa). Along the way, he also addresses a term that has become both vibrant and problematic in the plural. Alternatively, he flips through his "Dictionary of Diffuse Existence," created to lexicologically define the "substances of writing." In his quest to uncover the circumstances surrounding the creation of the poem, Seiler finds himself in present-day Los Angeles; in the title essay, he reflects on the concept of God from a secular childhood. In his essays, Seiler focuses on the prerequisites of writing, on "the all-encompassing and non-paraphrasable connection between text and life in the existence of the author.".
