With the volume "Spheres," Peter Sloterdijk has completed the three-part attempt of his new narrative of the history of humanity. The anthropological term "sphere," which gives the trilogy its title, refers to the author's main thesis that life is a mere formality. It suggests that life, the formation of spheres, and thinking are different expressions of the same phenomenon. The volume "Bubbles," published in 1998, reconstructs how the close proximity of people to one another creates a special kind of interiority. The emphasis in the first volume of "Spheres" is placed on the thesis that the couple represents a more authentic entity compared to the individual. In the philosophical novel "Globes" (1999), it is narrated how classical metaphysical thought, as a contemplation of the great round whole, expands to encompass the world, the globe, and sets in motion several forms of globalization.
