The philosophical essays collected in five volumes by Donald Davidson certainly represent the most significant achievement of American philosophy in the last 50 years. With "Subjective, Intersubjective, Objective," the third volume is now available in paperback. The essays contained within revolve around the classic epistemological theme of knowledge. Davidson demonstrates that there are not just, as is commonly assumed, two, but three varieties of knowledge: subjective knowledge of our own thoughts, intersubjective knowledge of the thoughts of others, and objective knowledge about the non-personal world. The relationship between these types of knowledge is the subject of this book.
