Hans Blumenberg's book "Shipwreck with Spectator" ends with a text bearing the somewhat enigmatic title "Outlook on a Theory of Unconceptuality." During his lifetime, this remained merely an outlook on a theory that seemed to contradict the fundamental conditions of theory—namely, to be conceptually formulated—thus posing numerous riddles. Among the wonderful discoveries in Hans Blumenberg's estate is not only a folder with small drafts but also a longer manuscript that develops the "Outlook" into a fully-fledged "Theory of Unconceptuality," which is also a text of programmatic character for Blumenberg's philosophical project as a whole: a philosophical program document. The theory of unconceptuality can be seen as a counterpart, a further development, and a counter-proposal to the famous paradigms of metaphorology.
