More important than Heiner Müller, even for the Surrealists, could not have been the theme of dreams. Already as a student, Müller read Freud, recorded his own dreams, and collected dreams from his classmates. "Dream Texts" organizes the narrative and dramatic texts that correspond to his dream recordings, some of which are unpublished and span his life until the very end. These texts incorporate and process some of these dreams, while also compiling Müller's reflections on the connection between life, dreams, writing – and the dream of a better world. "The problem of the writer, indeed of the artist, is that he spends his entire working life trying to reach the poetic level of his dreams. This is only possible if he does not interpret what he produces. I write more than I know. I do not want to think about what I am doing.".
