Eugen Rapp, the well-known author of a series of eight novels, wants to revisit the places of his childhood in his old age by walking through them. During these hikes in Hohenlohe, in northern Württemberg, he encounters two women who could hardly be more different, yet who have maintained a close friendship since their youth.
