This volume continues the widely conducted discussion within political philosophy regarding the concept of recognition and its relationship to theories of justice. Nancy Fraser argues that a political-philosophical focus on the concept of recognition leads to the sidelining of still pressing redistribution issues. In contrast, Axel Honneth aims to demonstrate that questions of distributive justice can be normatively clarified better when they are reformulated within a sufficiently differentiated concept of recognition. The questions raised by this opposition pose a series of political, social-theoretical, and normative issues that are controversially addressed in this volume.
