With a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche (Ecce homo) that is representative of Peter Sloterdijk's stance, the Center for Media and Art in Karlsruhe opened the symposium celebrating the 70th birthday of the born-in-Karlsruhe cultural diagnostician, aiming to illuminate the provocative power of his work. Peter Weibel explained the initiative: "When Peter Sloterdijk entered the stage of philosophy with his first major publication, Critique of Cynical Reason, in 1983, he shook it to its core, as the very first sentence proclaimed in a high tone: 'For a century, philosophy has been dying and cannot, because its task remains unfulfilled.' Since that time, Peter Sloterdijk has published around 100 books, in which he philosophizes about the world in a new way. Even if philosophy were to cease to exist, philosophers still do.".
