Was it not always said that a person is not a commodity? In fact, human lives are now being economically evaluated everywhere, even in Germany: Hospitals, authorities, and HR departments are pondering questions like: "Is a traffic light worth it if you value a life at 1.2 million?" "Is it worth it to give 75-year-olds new hips?" But is it even permissible to ask such questions? Is it legitimate to economically relativize human dignity?
