Product details

This volume concludes the extensive four-volume edition of Samuel Beckett's letters. It contains letters from the last 23 years of his life, during which the work of the author, who became famous with Waiting for Godot (1953), continues to unfold. In 1969, Beckett receives the Nobel Prize and flees to Tunisia. From the avalanche of congratulations and other correspondence, he, the diligent correspondent, can hardly free himself. Time and again, for instance on birthdays, he finds himself buried under this deluge, complaining and then picking himself up again. For texts continue to demand attention. Numerous theater and television plays are created, as well as prose, including the trilogy Company, Ill Seen Ill Said, and Worstward Ho. Beckett directs his own plays in Paris, London, and frequently in Berlin, as well as television pieces in Stuttgart. He is constantly occupied with self-translations of his French texts.
