Ten years after the death of Wolfgang Koeppen, the edition of his complete works begins. It also draws on the extensive estate, allowing for the first time a presentation of all facets of his writing through his novels, travel books, essays, interviews, novel projects, drafts, and fragments. Koeppen's fellow writer Hans-Ulrich Treichel, who is also a literary scholar, has taken on the role of editor for this edition, aiming to present the entire oeuvre philologically with high precision in volumes whose commentaries convey previously unknown information and foundational knowledge in an enjoyable manner for both general readers and specialists. The edition is planned to consist of 14 volumes. The first to be released is "Tauben im Gras," the novel published by Koeppen in 1951, with which the author established his reputation as a socially critical storyteller. Marcel Reich-Ranicki stated succinctly: "Anyone who has not read this novel should not believe they know German literature after 1945.".
