Thomas Bernhard was known for being reclusive, yet he made his first attempts at writing as a reporter for a newspaper. He enjoyed writing letters to the editor, and his last publication is a letter to the Salzkammergut-Zeitung. It is now clear that Thomas Bernhard has precisely shaped his image as a person and a writer through articles, interviews, speeches, and essays. Although he did not succeed in manipulating public opinion to see him as he wished to be seen, the author who utilized the media made every effort to present himself as a character from his novels. This edition gathers for the first time all the texts intended for the public by Thomas Bernhard between 1950 and 1989 - from court reports in Salzburg in the 1950s to the tirades of the 1960s and 1970s against God.
