Information is a ubiquitous concept in everyday life, in the sciences, and in philosophy. Today, it is increasingly claimed by the natural sciences as its own fundamental subject: it is being naturalized. The book traces the path of how concepts arise from physics and mathematics, which then become the foundation of communication technology and cybernetics through the philosophy of science and language philosophy, ultimately leading to genetic information and other natural phenomena. This gives rise to a misunderstood form of the mind-body problem: How do technical objects, as well as molecules in the human genome, acquire properties that were originally reserved for human language? This book corrects misunderstandings, identifies commonly used expressions today as partially erroneous metaphors, and reconstructs human action and speech.
