The leading thinker of contemporary analytical philosophy, Donald Davidson, and the co-founder of philosophical neopragmatism, Richard Rorty, have engaged in a highly regarded debate since the 1970s about the significance of the concept of truth in philosophy. The starting point was the adoption of an explanatory understanding of truth. In its place, Davidson and Rorty propose an interpretative analysis of our use of "true." The contentious issue is whether and how citation-affirming, endorsing, and warning usages are interconnected, and what implications this has for truth as a fundamental problem of philosophy. The selected key texts date from 1974 to 2000 and have largely never been published in German before.
