Deep in the jungle of India, by the Narmada River, stands an inn. Its manager has retreated there from the bustling life of Bombay to reflect. However, the world soon catches up with him: his inn becomes a refuge for strangers, for people facing decisions and seeking comfort and help by the sacred river. There is the young monk who escapes his wealthy family, the courtesan searching for her daughter, and the manager of a tea plantation who has fallen madly in love with one of his pickers. They all find the key to their fate on the riverbank, and the innkeeper must also realize that his retreat into the jungle was, above all, a turning towards life.
