The Gateway to Spessart - no other nickname describes the location of Aschaffenburg on the Bavarian Lower Main more accurately. This illustrated book offers the viewer a fascinating insight into the history of the city of Aschaffenburg. The mostly unpublished photographs were taken between 1863 and 1960 and represent unique historical documents in their own right. In addition to depictions of architecture, interested viewers are also granted glimpses into the everyday life of that time. Through this illustrated book, the authors Sylvia Breiter and Thomas Hesse aim to present Aschaffenburg around the turn of the century and beyond to both locals and newcomers, as well as to the city's guests. At the same time, well-known motifs that have faded from memory for many are presented in a new light.
