Product details

The Staffelsee, known as the warmest lake in Upper Bavaria, is "the most beautiful place on the northern edge of the Bavarian Alps" - as the poet Ödön von Horváth wrote, who spent many years of his life in Murnau. Peter Blath, the renowned author of numerous publications about the Werdenfelser Land, invites you on a journey through the past of the Staffelsee and its surroundings with over 220 photographs and postcards from 1894 to the 1960s. The route not only circles the lake and passes through its neighboring communities of Rieden, Seehausen, Uffing, Schöffau, and Murnau, but also includes Jakobsinsel, the smallest of the seven Staffelsee islands, as well as Wörth with the Simpert Chapel and the 1,000-year-old lime tree. Impressive and, in part, previously unpublished images from private collections and Blath's own archive provide multifaceted insights into the lives of the residents.
