Nestled in the picturesque Laacher Seetal in the Eastern Eifel, the medieval Benedictine Abbey of Maria Laach is located. Founded in 1093 by Count Heinrich II of Laach and completed after 120 years of construction, the abbey has experienced a tumultuous history. After the secularization in the 19th century, the buildings were used as an estate and later became the site of a Jesuit college. It was not until 1892, with the resettlement by monks from the Archabbey of Beuron, that Benedictine life returned to the walls of Maria Laach.
