The contrasting landscape types of marsh, raised bog, and geest have always shaped the history of the municipality of Hude and the lives of its residents. Hude experienced a significant boost thanks to the construction of the railway starting in 1867. Over 200 historical photographs and postcards from the period of 1890 to about 1970 document the recent history of Hude. The largely unpublished images from almost all areas of daily life primarily come from private collections. They not only show the ruins of the Cistercian monastery and old views of the town but also the development of the railway as well as working life in agriculture and industry, crafts, and trades.
