Product details

In the mid-1960s, the region around Ronneburg, then part of the Gera district, became the center of uranium ore mining of the SDAG Wismut, which had been in operation since 1953. Even today, the massive mounds of waste rock testify to nearly 40 years of mining activity. However, the decommissioning and storage work of Wismut GmbH in the Ronneburg ore field is in full swing. All of this illustrates not the actions of the people who worked as miners under difficult conditions and lived with their families in an area shaped and also destroyed by mining. Ekkehard Riedl, a former miner himself, presents this region from 1949 to 1990. More than 200 mostly unpublished photographs document the lives of the miners in their work environment. The viewer is invited to once again experience the work processes above and below ground, as well as cultural aspects.
