Duissern, one of the oldest districts of Duisburg, has a varied history. The green belt from Goerdeler Park at the main train station to Schweizer Strasse at the foot of Kaiserberg, along with the Botanical Garden, serves as a reminder of the past when it was a village in the greenery. Harald Molder and Reinhold Stausberg from the Duisburg Witness Exchange have compiled around 200 mostly unpublished historical postcards and photographs from public and private collections, inviting you on an exciting journey into the history of Duissern. The impressive images from the period between 1890 and 1960 showcase both the development of the district and people in very private moments. They recall everyday work life, vibrant community activities, school days, beloved local pubs, and traditional major events such as the shooting festival and the Rose Monday parade.
