Product details

Stellingen has long thrived on the commitment of its residents, whose dedication to their community is unparalleled. The social, cultural, and political life of Stellingen is characterized by numerous citizen initiatives, clubs, and institutions – despite the fact that Stellingen's development since its incorporation into Hamburg in 1937 seems to have been under a bad star. During World War II, more than a third of the buildings were destroyed by bombing raids. The infrastructural changes of the 1960s and 1970s, with road and housing developments, did not always improve the character of the district. Peter Rickers, chairman of the citizens' association and other regional clubs, presents this richly illustrated book as a continuation of his successful volume on the history of Stellingen between 1870 and 1937, featuring over 230 images from private and public collections.
