Herford is primarily known far beyond the borders of the region thanks to Herforder Pils. However, this popular beer is not brewed in Herford itself, but in Sundern. In the city, the weaving mills, the textile industry, and the numerous confectionery factories played a significant role, among which the Weinrich chocolate factory still exists today. The metal goods factory Streuber & Lohmann is now known nationwide under the name SULO for its transport containers for waste management. Around 140 previously largely unpublished historical photographs document not only working life but also church and school life, the many clubs, as well as private and public celebrations between 1900 and 1960.
