The Danube crosses no less than ten countries on its 2,850-kilometer journey from west to east. The Danube shipping companies that once navigated the second longest river in Europe were of various nationalities. Until now, largely unpublished images illustrate in this book the technical and nautical development of the most important Danube shipping companies and their vintage ships, which were built up until the 1960s. The over 200 historical photographs mainly come from the personal collection of the author, who was part of the company until 1996. Franz Dosch is already known to many readers through his successful photo book "180 Years of Danube Steamship Company." With this photo book, he documents the eventful history of Danube shipping over the past one and a half centuries and invites readers to rediscover and explore it anew.
