The aim of this historical picture book is to vividly depict Stralsund in the first half of the 20th century. The numerous shops and businesses in the old town, as well as in the suburbs, the relatively unknown history of the peasant citizens and transport entrepreneurs, the long tradition as a garrison town, the transportation system, and not least the organization of leisure activities in clubs and taverns are focal points of this volume. Philocartists and long-established Stralsund families support the authors with interesting and previously unpublished images from the years 1890 to 1950. Thus, this book resembles a photo album of the Hanseatic city, offering both locals and their guests an entertaining journey through recent history.
