Product details

The conflict in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, has been a widely discussed topic in international literature and media since the beginning of the Arab Spring in early 2011. Legal questions arise regarding the right of each state to sovereignty and the closely related prohibition of the use of force as outlined in the United Nations Charter. This work provides a detailed examination of the conditions under which a third state's intervention in a foreign state is permissible under international law, illustrated by the example of Syria. Given that the United Nations Security Council plays a key role in international interventions, its powers are explained, while also critically questioning a state's possible unilateral intervention. Additionally, new concepts such as the Responsibility to Protect are explored.
