In Austria, since 2010, same-sex couples have had the option to enter into a registered partnership. The Registered Partnership Act (EPG) provides homosexual couples with legal recognition of their cohabitation for the first time. This work aims to illustrate how the registered partnership is structured and how it has evolved since the EPG came into effect. The main focus will be on the rights and obligations of registered partners and their differences from marriage law. In particular, the development of adoption rights for same-sex couples and the related case law will form the core area of the work.
