Product details

The import and trade of salt in Switzerland is a right that historically belongs exclusively to the cantons. The author examines, after an introduction to the applicable domestic market regulations, the most important international trade agreements concluded by Switzerland (GATT, EFTA Convention, Free Trade Agreement with the EU, Government Procurement) to address whether the Swiss import regulation is designed without discrimination and how it relates to the prohibition of quantitative or similar restrictions. In this context, it is analyzed whether and to what extent the imposition of tariffs, fees, and other charges is compatible with the mentioned trade agreements. The question of whether the principle of competition can be deviated from according to the respective agreements is also discussed. In the event of a breach of agreement, what legal recourse is available?.
