This book addresses EU merger law based on antitrust and market abuse law, incorporating takeover regulations. The established law is explained both internally and through the case law of the Union courts. Since the EU adheres to principles based on OECD recommendations and is a party to numerous relevant agreements with third parties, special attention is given to the respective personal, territorial, material, and temporal scopes of application. The focus is on the Merger Control Regulation 139/2004, which is discussed in the context of its implementing Regulation 1/2003 and associated guidelines. Additionally, the Takeover Directive 2004/25, the Merger Directive 2005/56, and the Merger Directive 2005/19 are also covered. The legal status is as of May 1, 2010.
