The relationship between Switzerland and Europe has been and continues to be the subject of intense political debate. The mutual connections between European and Swiss development are hardly known in their historical dimension. The author argues that, on a conceptual level, Swiss economic and social policy after World War II can be interpreted as a process of Europeanization. In this context, Swiss development is understood as a specific variant of a broader Western European development and is exemplarily illustrated through three policy areas.
