Under the keyword "Myth of Switzerland," this volume discusses the prominent role of particularly Swiss-German literature in identity formation processes and its critical reflection in Switzerland during the 20th century. It brings together contributions from a Dublin conference held in 2006, which gathered renowned Swiss Germanists and colleagues from Ireland, Great Britain, Canada, the USA, and Germany. Especially since the end of World War II, Swiss literature has become a central medium in the cultural and societal ensemble of discourses for the continuation and reinterpretation of established Swiss myths such as 'exceptional case,' 'confederation,' 'neutrality,' 'Alps,' 'multiculturalism,' or 'literary counter-discourse.' The volume analyzes these and other myths under key themes such as the concept of "Swiss literature" in the context of globalization and multiculturalism.
