In 1921, Knud Rasmussen, along with a group of scientists, will map the previously unexplored regions of Northern Canada and study its flora and fauna - but above all, he aims to meet the people and record their myths and stories. For over a year, he visits various Inuit communities and becomes acquainted with the great shaman Awwa and his family. Awwa is the last of the shamans, as even Christian missionaries have penetrated far into the North. The life of the Inuit is on the brink of a major upheaval. Starting in 1923, Knud Rasmussen's great research expedition will traverse the legendary Northwest Passage, nearly 6,000 kilometers long, all the way to the Bering Strait. Traveling with just one dog sled, the three-member expedition team is entirely on their own. The volume containing the second part of the expedition is in preparation.
