Tactical emergency medicine is a relatively new field in Germany and is provided by emergency services to support the police in special situations, such as during an active shooter incident as part of the rescue team concept. The focus is on whether the regular emergency services, given the current state of training and equipment, are generally capable of handling such situations—meaning they must care for many patients with extremely limited resources, and traditional training systems that prioritize the early transport of critical patients are not easily applicable. To address this issue, several training sessions in Schleswig-Holstein were observed, and the challenges of regular equipment and training were examined in detail in relation to the principles of Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS).
