You can work with soft pastels on various surfaces, such as paper and cardboard. It is important that the surface has sufficient texture. Therefore, it is recommended to use special pastel paper or pastel cardboard. This will achieve the best results. Pastel paper comes in various colors - including very dark ones - and in fine as well as less fine textures.

Every beginning is difficult, especially when it comes to creating your own artwork. So don't make it too hard on yourself at the start. Let your surroundings inspire you, come up with a still life, or use a photo.
