This recently discovered book of miraculous signs is one of the most spectacular rediscoveries in the field of German Renaissance art. The illustrated manuscript, created around 1550 in Augsburg, contains 169 large-format illustrations executed in gouache and watercolor, depicting wondrous and often terrifying celestial phenomena, star constellations, fires, floods, as well as other disasters and mysterious occurrences. The narrative spans from the Old Testament through events from ancient traditions and medieval chronicles to the present day of the book's authors, and ultimately, with illustrations of the visionary Book of Revelation, even to the future end of the world. This volume faithfully reproduces the Augsburg book of miraculous signs, making one of the most significant works of the German Renaissance accessible.
