According to phenomenology, the body occupies a dual position: it exists in the world and simultaneously serves as the medium for accessing the world. Before the techniques involving apparatuses and instruments, there lies the entirety of the techniques of the body. The relationship between nature and culture unfolds in bodily behavior, in the practical interaction with objects, and in material and performative conditions. Through current habituation via activity, learned behaviors enter the world. In repeated actions, a habitus is acquired, which sediments in the emergence of the visible world. The body is positioned, as the initial thesis of this volume suggests, between cultures and generations as the first technical medium of humanity, which continues to carry and give through mimetic interaction and incorporation, practicing and functioning. The techne is oriented towards the body, which allows things to appear, invents, produces, and appropriates.
