Product details
1,000 years ago, King Olav brought Christianity to the Norwegians, who at that time believed in Thor and other pagan gods. Shortly after his death, the king was canonized, and Christians from all over Europe began to pilgrimage to Nidaros, to the grave of Saint Olav. Today's Trondheim quickly developed into a major pilgrimage center. With the Reformation, the pilgrimage route through Norway fell into oblivion. Only in recent times has this path, the Pilgrimsleden til Nidaros, been revitalized through various initiatives by the Norwegian government, complete signage, and a network of unusual pilgrim hostels. Unlike the Camino de Santiago, these are not hostels with dormitory-style accommodations, but often old farms that have partially preserved their medieval character and have now become true gems along the Olavsweg in the midst of a dreamlike landscape.
Helfried Weyer, born in 1939 in Königsberg, has worked for many years as a freelance photojournalist. Many photographic journeys have taken him, accompanied by his wife and collaborator Renate, around the globe and to all seven continents. On lecture tours in Germany and abroad, Weyer presents his excellent photographic material in elaborate panoramic techniques to a wide audience. As a distinguished member of the German Society for Photography, he has gained international recognition primarily through his numerous book publications.
