Nevertheless, they are comparatively often ill. Studies show that there is an exceptionally high rate of bullying and burnout in social professions, leading to an increasing number of work absences. What do social workers need to lead a successful professional life and avoid burnout? Can the promotion of relational competence contribute to improving their work situation? Katharina Ludewig identifies sources of conflict, examines the interactive interplay of various influencing factors, and connects this to a fundamental dilemma faced by social organizations: hierarchy and economic efficiency versus employee orientation.
