Product details

Systematic musicology and contemporary music cultures, as the first musicological series published by Tectum Verlag, presents the results of musicological research and findings from scientific colloquia that have emerged at the Institute for Musicology and Music Education at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Edited by Claudia Bullerjahn, the series offers self-contained contributions on all forms of music and music cultural life, examining them with a musicological focus. The present volume by author Cordula Sprenger is the first published monograph on the composer Felicitas Kukuck, who passed away in 2001. As a student of Paul Hindemith and a composer of Jewish descent, she gained respect in the post-war period particularly through her published works in the field of applied and amateur music. Her song compositions are the focus of this work, which investigates them through detailed analyses of selected, partly unpublished songs, highlighting specific stylistic, historical, and biographical influences. Additionally, Kukuck's estate is being scientifically considered for the first time—various documents such as letters, private writings, Kukuck's Reich Culture Chamber file, a recording of an interview with one of the composer's daughters, as well as sound examples, scores, and unpublished manuscripts are included in the work on a material CD-ROM, bringing a piece of time and music history back to life like mosaic pieces.
