The creator of the world is a writer! With this postulate of Johann Georg Hamann, divine revelation itself becomes the origin of poetry. While for Hamann, genius as a prophet embodies a responsive act of creation, in Johann Gottfried Herder's aesthetics of creation, humanity is transformed into a deified co-creator, analogous to the divine original artist. This development culminates in Goethe's creator aesthetics, where the genius, which deifies itself in the act of creation, becomes the founder of its own art religion, thereby binding the originally religious claim to truth to the individual. This study aims to show that even the act of creation of the self-deifying genius in Goethe, whose autonomy is most vehemently asserted, cannot be considered autonomous. It is an usurpation of divine creative power.
